Creative Black Women In History You Should Know
To celebrate Black History Month 2023, I created assets for an Instagram random selector filter prompting users to learn about underappreciated Black women historical figures on the @HelloSunshine handle, which has a following of about 1M. “Creative Black Women In History You Should Know” highlights six women—Alice Allison Dunnigan, Cicely Tyson, Harriet E. Wilson, Hazel Scott, Della Reese, and Dana Canedy—all who have made important contributions but who I knew nothing about at the start of this project.
I leveraged my collaging and hand-lettering skills to create a set of seven assets for this project—one title card and one for each woman—before my teammate Justine brought the effect to life.
